VADODARA: An 11-foot-long crocodile was found dead in Vishwamitri River on Sunday afternoon. The body of the huge reptile was spotted floating in Sayajigunj area by some locals who informed the fire brigade and the forest department. This is the second such incident in the last three months.
“An adult crocodile was then found dead in the river in the same area. Such deaths of the crocodiles are a matter of concern but the forest department is not taking any concrete steps,” said Arvind Pawar of Wildlife Rescue Trust.
“Forest officials say that the crocodiles died due to natural reasons but they don’t release the official reports. We suspect that the polluted water released by the civic body in the river may be causing the deaths,” Pawar alleged.
Last year, two crocodiles were found dead in the river.
In August 2022, an 11-foot-long crocodile’s body was found from a lake next to the Vishwamitri River and in the following month, another 6-foot-long crocodile was found dead in the river.
