KANPUR: A 25-year-old woman filed a police complaint of being assaulted by her husband and in-laws for giving birth to two daughters. The alleged incident took place in Ahradadiya village under the limits of Makhi police station in Unnao district on Friday.
The incident, however, came to light after the police, on the complaint of the woman -Sushma, wife of Deepu, lodged an FIR on Sunday.
In her complaint, the woman stated that her husband and in-laws first started harassing her for dowry soon after the marriage.
“Gradually, it increased, when she delivered her first girl child in 2020. Their behaviour , however, crossed all the limits after she delivered her second girl child about one-and-a-half months ago. On Friday, her husband and in-laws beat her up severely as they were disappointed by the birth of the second girl,” said the police.
Police inspector Ram Asrey Chowdhary said, “We have registered an FIR against her husband and in-laws for torture and harassment.” According to the police, the complainant hails from Bhauli village of Ajgain. She was married to Deepu of Ahradadiya village in 2019, police added.
