PRAYAGRAJ: In a bid to enhance the green cover of the Prayagraj district, the district administration has decided to propagate Japan's Miyawaki technique at the village level and increase the greenery in the district. For this, training would be imparted to village heads of different villages of the district. The forest department would be imparting training to these village heads in a phased manner. To start with, saplings will be planted on one-hectare land in NTPC Meja and half a hectare land in IFFCO Phulpur with Miyawaki technique.
With this planning, training was given to the village heads of different villages of the district at the district panchayat auditorium on Thursday. In the programme Chief Development Officer (CDO) Shipu Giri said that when saplings are planted using this technique, they grow at a rapid rate. In the technical session, Divisional Forest officer (DFO) Mahavir Kaujalgi informed the village head's that 30 thousand saplings can be planted in one hectare of land using this technique. Which means that three saplings will grow effectively in one square meter of land size. A distance of about eight feet will be kept between two plants and in-between them, shrubs will be grown. The soil around the plants will have to be hoed from time to time.
To improve the quality of the soil, the DFO advised to use Jeevamrut manure. This manure is prepared by adding cow urine and jaggery to the soil. Due to this, the life of the soil remains good due to natural farming. The DFO said that in two years the forest area will be prepared in such a way that it will not be possible to enter because of thick vegetation growth. He said that normally the forest area develops in 20 to 25 years after planting the saplings.
Work will be done to increase the forest area under MNREGA in the district. DC, MNREGA Kapil Kumar said that 433 areas have been identified in the first phase. Further work will be done at these places. DC, MNREGA said that we plant trees every year, but there is a problem that the plants do not become trees. With this technique, plants will become trees. Soon the forest area will develop. Work related to planting saplings using this technique will be done to increase the forest area under MNREGA in the district. Kapil Kumar said that by using this technique, there are very high chances that all the sapling will not only survive but the planted area will soon develop into a thick forest area.
