With great safety and solid value, the 2023 Ford Edge offers much to crossover shoppers.
What kind of car is the 2023 Ford Edge? What does it compare to?
The Ford Edge is a mid-size crossover with seating for five. It’s a comfortable cruiser but it lags behind the competition in terms of both efficiency and sport-utility aspirations. Similar vehicles in the segment include the Honda Passport, Chevrolet Blazer, and Ford Bronco Sport.
Is the 2023 Ford Edge a good SUV?
Thanks to good safety scores and a well-rounded features list, the Edge earns a TCC Rating of 6.3 out of 10. (Read more about how we rate cars.)
What's new for the 2023 Ford Edge?
After last year’s minor round of feature updates, the 2023 Ford Edge carries over unchanged—not surprising considering Ford has announced that 2023 marks the last year for the Edge.
2023 Ford Edge
Styling
The name’s ironic; few SUVs look smoother.
Is the Ford Edge a good-looking car?
Basic yet elegant, the Edge earns a 6 for its familiar styling. As it’s the last year for the Edge, there’s no point bemoaning the fact that the Edge would have benefited from some more significant exterior refreshes over the past decade or so.
2023 Ford Edge
Performance
A taut ride and ample turbo power help the Edge keep the pace.
The Ford Edge satisfies thanks to its ample acceleration and smooth ride, even without spending the hefty premium on the Edge ST. It rates a 6.

2023 Ford Edge
Comfort & Quality
Very roomy and reasonably comfortable, the Edge could use better seats.
The Edge offers good space for five passengers and their cargo, earning a score of 7, but more comfortable seats would be a welcome upgrade and worthy of a higher score.
The Edge SE’s cloth seats lack support and don’t entice the driver to stick around any longer than necessary. This is remedied somewhat in top-tier trims, but it shouldn’t cost as much as it does. At least the SEL, one step up from the base model, brings heated front seats and power adjustment.
2023 Ford Edge
Safety
It’s a 10, but then...roof pillars.
How safe is the Ford Edge?
The Ford Edge has great crash-test scores and comes standard with a long list of safety tech and features. That would be good for a 10, but wide roof pillars seriously compromise rearward vision, subtracting a point.
2023 Ford Edge
Features
Massive infotainment and standard all-wheel drive outweigh Ford’s pedestrian warranty.
A great menu of standard safety and infotainment features earns the Edge a score of 8.
Basic warranty coverage of just 3 years/36,000 miles and a lack of more interesting options kee the Edge from rating even more highly.
2023 Ford Edge
Fuel Economy
The Edge plays the middle part in gas mileage.
Is the Ford Edge good on gas?
Fuel economy ratings for the Edge are mediocre at best. Models with the turbo-4 base engine with all-wheel drive have EPA ratings of 21/28/23 mpg, and the turbo V-6 Edge ST is rated for 19/26/21 mpg. That’s a 2 on the TCC scale.
