E S’bhum carries out eviction drive in Sakchi
Jamshedpur: The East Singhbhum district administration on Saturday carried out an eviction drive on the Kalimati Road in Sakchi.
The team, comprising officials of the Jamshedpur circle office, the JNAC, and the police, bulldozed several illegal makeshift shops of the vendors from near the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) office building to the Nettur Technical Training Foundation (NTTF) located at Golmuri in the three-and-a-half hour anti-encroachment drive. It razed illegally extended portion of authorised shops, advertisement boards, and flexes. The unauthorised fruit carts, tea shops, kiosks set up on the pavement have been seized. Dhalbhum sub-divisional officer (SDO) Piyush Sinha, JNAC special officer (SO) Sanjay Kumar, deputy superintendent of police (DSP) (Traffic) Kamal Kishore were present at the site.
City manager Ravi Bharati said, “The encroachment mostly comprised extended portion of authorised shops, besides kiosks and second-hand motorcycles’ shops.”
The step was needed as the defaulters did not act even after being served with notice. It would ensure smooth movement of vehicular traffic, deputy commissioner (DC) Vijaya Jadhav said.
Earlier on Friday, the JNAC made a public announcement about the drive, acting on the direction of DC Jadhav. It appealed to the encroachers to remove their belongings voluntarily.
The Kalimati road, which is one of the busiest roads of the city, sees traffic snarls regularly. “Tea shops, eateries, second-hand vehicle shops, and unauthorised extension of authorised shops are the major stumbles for vehicular traffic on the Kalimati Road,” said 40-year-old Satnam Singh Gambhir, who owns a car decoration shop at the Sakchi market. Notably, the DC has also announced that eviction drive would be carried out to make the busy markets at Bistupur, Sakchi, Mango, vendor-free zones in the next few days.
