TIRUPATI: Tirupati district police wing arrested three smugglers and recovered a red sanders logs consignment late on Saturday.
Speaking to reporters at the district police office on Sunday, Tirupati SP P Parameswara Reddy IPS said that the Bhakarapet and Yerravaripalem police acted on specific information and conducted vehicular checks near Yellananda-Usthikayalapenta road on Saturday.
Smugglers traveling in a car and on a bike tried to assault a police constable and a homeguard and tried to escape.
However, the alert cops took three interstate smugglers into custody while one smuggler managed to escape.
The accused arrested by the police were identified as K Ravi Kumar (22), K Sudhakar (24) and A Manivel (24), belonging to different parts of
Tamil Nadu.
Police have laid a hunt for the key accused who managed to escape and was identified as Sathyaraj Rajendran (34).
Police seized 13 red sanders logs, a four wheeler and a two wheeler from the possession of the accused.
