Panaji: Three members of the Goa Philately and Numismatics Society have won the awards in various categories of philately at the recently concluded Amritpex exhibition. Ramesh Kumar, Roland de Mello and Sheikh Samiruddin presented exhibits on Cochin, Portuguese India and French India.
“We were representing Goa at the national level and were among 1,400 participants at the Amritpex exhibition. It is a great achievement to win awards among so many participants,” said Sheikh, who presented the French India collection that won him the silver medal.
The trio displayed several interesting stamps, special covers, miniature sheets, first day covers, block of four maxim cards and commemorative covers among others.
Kumar won a silver medal for his exhibits on Cochin State Postal History. He had exhibited several postage due covers and also dead letter office covers, train covers, interstate covers, international covers to the feudatory state of Cochin and vice versa. There are several special cancellations and rare cancellation too in his collection including the pre-adhesive cancellation and postage due cancellation in both English and Malayalam. Also, he had several privileged covers or palace covers which does not need any stamps on the cover.
De Mello won one large silver medal for his Portuguese India and one silver medal for his catalogue under the literature class ‘Philately with a Goan Connect’. He also won a bronze medal for his thematic collection on lighthouses.
