LUDHIANA: AAP MLA Gurpreet Gogi on Saturday conducted a surprise check at RS Model Senior Secondary School in Shastri Nagar here, where he reportedly found deworming tablets lying in the dustbins. State government had on Febraury 10 distributed Albendazole tablets in schools to mark National Deworming Day.
Gogi claimed these tablets had an expiry date of April 2024, and when he got to know they were lying in the bin, he conducted a surprise check and also filed a complain with the district education officer (DEO).
The visit was streamed live on his social media, in which he sought clarification from school director Mohan Lal Kalra, who denied having any knowledge of the same. He alleged the authorities were incapable of running the school, adding, “I will ask the education department to cancel the affiliation of the school.”
However, school principal Sunita Devgan said as per preliminary investigation conducted by her, the tablets were unknowingly thrown by the sweeper in the bin after which some people recorded a video of it. She said they distribute these tablets during parent-teacher meetings.
DEO (secondary) Harjit Singh said action would be taken upon investigation.
