PUNE: Dysfunctional street lights on Airport Road have been causing inconvenience to motorists, citizens and air travellers over the last few weeks.
A stretch of about a km from Vishrantwadi Chowk to the airport remains dark in the evening. The thoroughfare remains congested throughout the day, but the situation turns worse in the evening.
Before the G-20 Summit on January 7, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) had replaced the electric poles and installed tricolour-illuminated LED lights. However, the lights stopped functioning after the summit, said residents and activists.
"This shows the lackadaisical attitude of the PMC authorities towards the safety of residents," said Navin Singh, an activist.
Shrinivas Kandul, chief engineer, electrical department, PMC, told TOI, "We had taken a temporary electricity supply from the Smart City authorities. But the supply was cut a few weeks ago. Now, they have agreed to restore it till we get our electric meter from the MSEDCL. The supply will be restored soon."
