CM graced the Platinum Jubilee Celebration at Pakkigaon, Soreng

Soreng, 26 February (IPR): The six-day long platinum jubilee celebration of Government Secondary School, Pakkigaon under Soreng district concluded, today. The celebratory event witnessed an amalgamation of festivities through cultural performances, traditional exhibitions and sports here at the school playground.

The Chief Minister, Shri Prem Singh Tamang graced the occasion as the chief guest and he was accompanied by the guest of honour, Minister of Education, Shri Kunga Nima Lepcha and Minister of Power and Transport, Shri M.N Sherpa along with the MLAs, Advisors, Chairpersons, Political Secretary to CM, Shri Jacob Khaling, Zilla Adhakshya Soreng, Smt. Tila Devi Gurung, Zilla Panchayats, Secretary, Education Department, Smt. Sumita Pradhan, DC Soreng, Shri Bhim Thatal, SP Soreng, Shri J. Jayapandiyan, distinguished guests, students and local gentry at large.

The program commenced with the lighting of the customary lamp by the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour. Following this, the chief guest unveiled the Platinum Pillar dedicated to the school land donors and the founding members. He also visited the exhibition stall and inaugurated the newly established school library.

To mark the occasion, the chief guest released Smaran Pustak, a book showcasing the contribution of the school and the local community towards development. As a token of appreciation and honouring his legacy, the organizing committee felicitated the Chief Guest. Likewise, the program also featured the felicitation of the Principal Chief Engineer, Education Department, Shri A.B Subba for his contribution as an alumni towards the school and the local community. Further, the felicitation ceremony continued to the DC Soreng, Shri Bhim Thatal and the school land donors, Late Bishnu Lal Limboo and Taksari family.

Accorded by a zealous audience, the CM began his address by extending his warm greetings on the celebratory occasion. He added his congratulatory wishes to the school, students, and the organizing committee for successfully organizing the humongous event of platinum jubilee celebration. He quoted that the illustrious journey of the school has set an example for all and was humbled for being invited as the chief guest. Reminiscing his yesteryears as a student, he extended his gratitude towards his teachers and faculties for teaching him some valuable lessons in life along with his father who was his greatest educator.

The CM encouraged the students to epitomize the achievements of the acclaimed school alumni for directions to greater career choices. He also acknowledged the contributions made by former students in the school’s development and growth. He advised the students not to perceive any displeasing notion towards differences between private and government run schools. He added that success is the result of the dedication and hard work they put in learning.

Speaking extensively on the achievements of the Government in past three and a half years in the field of health and education, he enumerated all the schemes and policies that were introduced and implemented. He furthermore informed about the recent report mandated by the Economic Advisory Council (EAC), which hailed Sikkim in third position in Nationals and first in the North Eastern Region in terms of children below the age of 10 attending school. Thus, he hoped that the performance of the state will be accentuated in coming days. He enumerated the re-development and new constructions of higher institutes in each constituency. He added that new provisions are being implemented to encourage students and teachers to perform and accomplish much more via students educational tour, international exposure tour for National awardee teachers and so forth.

He categorically summarized all the scholarship schemes for competent and proficient students, especially belonging to weaker socio-economic strata of the society which included the CM’s meritorious scholarship to fifty-five students and extending the scholarship till college, free medical seats for fifty students on clearing NEET exams and financial assistance to thirty more students, free UPSC coaching for rightful candidates in state recognized coaching centre in Delhi, financial aid to Ukraine returned medical students for their further studies, APATAN Fellowship Scheme for students interested to attain PHD in local linguistic studies, Nar Bahadur Fellowship Schemes which aims to provide Sikkim’s brightest and promising graduates to pursue higher studies in Top 20 universities of the world, financial assistance to students pursuing engineering degree through CM’s discretion fund and so forth.

The CM also briefed about the new education policy which has been launched in the state as NIPUN Bharat, NIPUN Sikkim and urged for more dedication and perseverance from the department, teachers and the students to make it a success. Similarly, he advised the probationary teachers to work diligently in their place of appointment. He also touched upon other relatable policies such as one year maternity leave for new mothers along with one month for the fathers, increment with the birth of two or more children, one year free child-care facilities for government women employees. He also announced about the recently launched Forest department initiative of planting 100 trees for every new born on being registered to the department.

Speaking briefly, the Minister, Shri K.N Lepcha extended his warm greetings on the occasion of completing 75 glorious years of the school’s establishment. He also paid his due respect to the land donors and the founding members for their contribution towards education in the district. The State being well acknowledged by the Nation in education development took pride of place in his address to the audience. He further mentioned the CM’s vision of achieving laurels in education and health sectors by the State and encouraged everybody to strive for the greater deed.

The Minister reiterated the inclusivity and coordination between the department’s administrative and teaching faculties is of greater importance, henceforth. He gave weightage to making education and learning accessible to the marginalized section of the society in the State. He also made a brief address with regard to financial assistance through schemes and policies made by the Government.

One of the main attraction of the celebration was the Men’s Hill Open Volleyball Tournament. The finale was played between Daramdin VC and Sajbotey VC wherein Daramdin VC stood victorious.
