PUNE: The Kondhwa police on Friday arrested a truck driver and two others on the charge of abusing a traffic constable for intercepting a goods vehicle that had entered a no-entry zone at the Iskcon Temple Chowk on the Katraj-Kondhwa bypass around 8pm on Thursday.
Sub-inspector Balaji Digole said that constable Santosh Khade from Kondhwa traffic police signalled the truck driver to stop because he had entered a no-entry zone, but he sped away.
Digole said Khade, riding a motorcycle, gave a brief chase, stopped the driver and sought reasons for flouting the ban but he abused and picked up a dispute with him.
The police officer said two men riding a bike stopped, abused the constable and one of them yanked off his uniform button while his accomplice shot the incident on his cellphone. The trio are not known to each other, police said.
Truck driver Zubair Khan (25) from Alwar in Rajasthan, Laxmikant Pardedshi (39) and Sunny Pawar (35), both from Dhankawdi, were later arrested, the officer said.
The trio were produced before the court, which ordered their custodial remand till February 27. A complaint relating to obstructing a policeman for discharging duty was lodged under Section 353 of the Indian Penal Code.
