PHED flooded with calls for tanker water, but situation under control
Jaipur: On the second day of the closure of water supply from Bisalpur Dam to the city, field engineers of Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED) received several SOS calls from residents demanding tanker water. The situation, however, did not turn panicking as the demand was not more than the supply.
Engineers on the field claimed that the number of tankers available with them and the quantity of pre-stored water and tube well water were enough to meet the day’s demand in the city.
“Since the timings and schedules of the water supply cut were publicised well in advance, most residents showed responsibility and saved water for these two days. Still we have received phone calls from the residents demanding water and tried our best to address the issues by sending tankers,” said a field engineer.
On Saturday, the supply of tankers was around four times more than the usual rounds, said the field engineers. “We send around nine to ten rounds of tankers from my office on normal days. On Saturday, we had sent around 42 rounds of tankers. The situation could have gone out of control if the residents were not informed well in advance,” said a field engineer who looks after Bani Park area.
Considering the rise in the day temperature, it was a relief for PHED that the demand of water was not high in the city. That could be because most people have not started using air-coolers, and water is not that much necessary for gardening.
Officials working at Renwal said there had been no major hindrance in the work. Till Saturday evening, the work was in progress smoothly and as per schedule. “We hope to finish the job within the stipulated time. The work is going on well,” said PHED superintendent engineer Satish Jain.
At Renewal, PHED is connecting the main pipeline of Bisalpur with the newly constructed intermediate pump house. This work would help PHED supply 216 MLD of additional water from Bisalpur to Jaipur and areas en route this summer, said officials. TNN
