Ponda: In two separate raids conducted on Saturday, Ponda police have seized illegally extracted sand worth Rs 50,000 in Digas ward of Panchwadi.
Police have booked the owner of the property located opposite Sateri Temple in Digas in one case, and an owner of a tipper truck found transporting sand in another case.
In the first case, police said that they discovered 20 cu m of illegally extracted sand was stacked in the Digas property. In the second case, an owner cum driver of a tipper truck was found transporting around 6 cu m of illegally extracted sand worth Rs 10,000.
As the sand was extracted from the Zuari in Digas without obtaining any permission from the competent authority, police have registered two separate theft cases against the duo under provisions of the IPC, the Mines and Minerals Development and Regulation Act and the Goa, Daman and Diu Minor Mineral Concession Rules.
Around 20 tonne of sand was found dumped in Shiroda village during a raid by the flying squad on Monday.
The confiscated sand will be disposed back into the river, said an official attached with the raid.
