SI, head constable arrested on extortion charges in Chandauli

VARANASI: The Sakaldiha police arrested Nai Bazar outpost in-charge Bhupendra Kushwaha and a head constable Vinay Yadav on charges of extortion on Friday evening in Chandauli district.
Four of the accomplices are on the run and hunt is on to search them.
The arrested cops and their four accomplices had reportedly terrorised a truck driver, carrying fish seed from Kolkata to Haryana in his vehicle, at gunpoint and allowed him to go ahead after the truck owner transferred cash Rs one lakh in the account of extortionists.
Talking to TOI on Saturday ADG Varanasi zone Ram Kumar said that the incident of extortion had taken place on Thursday. Taking serious note of it officials in Chandauli ensured primary investigation after which an FIR was lodged with Sakaldiha police on Friday evening. It was followed by suspension and arresting of Nai Bazar outpost in-charge and his follower, he said adding, the car used by accomplices of arrested policemen had been seized. Police teams have been engaged to nab those accomplices, he added.
In his complaint the truck driver Mohd Ayub said that he was heading to Rohtak in Haryana after loading the consignment of fish seeds in Kolkata. When the truck was passing through national highway-2 in Chandauli district on Thursday car borne four persons including two in police uniform intercepted it by posing them as crime branch personnel. They forced Ayub to take the truck near Nai Bazar petrol pump.
He further alleged that two policemen, who were already present near petrol pump, took him on gunpoint. They terrorised Ayub by claiming that the fish seeds being taken by him were illegal and if they would book him in a case he would never get bail to come out of jail, he said mentioning, they forced Ayub to call truck owner by his personal phone. After the truck owner transferred Rs one lakh in the account number given by the cops they released Ayub and truck to move forward.
Following these developments the truck owner contacted senior police officers and brought the matter to their knowledge. CO Sakaldiha Rajesh Rai said that taking serious note of it the matter was investigated by officials and the involvement of Kushwaha and Yadav was confirmed. After it an FIR was lodged under section 386 (extortion) of IPC, he said adding, order for suspension of duo was issued from the SP Chandauli office and later Sakaldiha police arrested them.
Rai claimed that accomplices of arrested cops would also be nabbed soon.
