HYDERABAD: AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP,
Asaduddin Owaisi, on Saturday said his party should be given some credit for
BJP’s defeat in both the 2014 and 2018 assembly elections in Telangana. However he did not elaborate on the role AIMIM played in BJP’s defeat.
In 2018, Owaisi had fielded candidates in eight assembly segments in and around Hyderabad out of the 119 seats in the Telangana assembly. It had supported BRS (then TRS) in other segments which resulted in Muslim votes not being divided between AIMIM and BRS. While AIMIM won seven seats, BRS formed the government with a majority of 88 seats.
Speaking on first day of AIMIM’s two-day national convention in Navi Mumbai, he predicted that BJP would again be defeated in the Telangana assembly elections later this year. He said AIMIM would contest from more seats in Maharashtra in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and not be confined to its seat of Aurangabad.
Owaiai accused the BJP government at the Centre of sponsoring atrocities against Muslims in Haryana and other saffron party-ruled states.
BJP is fueling hatred against the Muslims, he alleged. On the other hand, he called out the secular parties, like the Congress, for not having met the families of the two men killed in Haryana.
