Kanpur: Three policemen, who were arrested on Thursday for robbing a businessman of Rs 5.30 lakh on Wednesday, were sent to jail on Friday.
The three policemen, identified as S-I Yatish Kumar, S-I Rohit Singh and head constable Abdul Rafey, were produced in the court of ACMM-3 Alok Yadav on Friday evening. The court later sent all the three policemen to jail.
The three had already been placed under suspension. Earlier, the medical examination of the trio was done at the district hospital.
To recall, the three policemen, including two sub-inspectors and a head constable, were arrested on charges of looting a businessman of Rs 5.30 lakh on Wednesday.
DCP (West) Vijay Dhull said the businessman in his complaint had alleged that he was returning from Sachendi on a motorcycle on Wednesday evening when he was stopped by the three cops near Deepu Chauhan ka Dhaba in Sachendi. “Two policemen, who were in civil dress while one in police uniform, snatched cash worth Rs 5.30 lakh from him and fled", the DCP said.
After the investigation was conducted on the complaint of the man, the charge was found to be true, the DCP furter said.
The three policemen were suspended with immediate effect after being taken into custody on Thursday.
S-I Yatish Kumar, S-I Rohit Singh and head constable Abdul Rafey were posted at the Commissionerate west zone, S-I Rohit was posted at the Sachendi police station.
