Wear helmets for safety, Goa DGP Jaspal Singh urges riders, pillions
PANAJI: Riding without helmets is rampant in the Goa even though 75% of fatalities are caused by two-wheeler related accidents, director general of police (DGP) Jaspal Singh said. Singh has also urged pillion riders to wear helmets.
“The rider may not love his life, but his kinsmen keenly await his safe return home as they are dependent on him,” he said.
“What bravado lies in not wearing a helmet? Is there any pride in violation of law? None. Human skulls are not metallic, helmets are. So, wear them if you love your kinsmen,” DGP said.
Singh said that all riders including pillions should wear a good quality BIS-certified helmet while riding on all roads including highways. They should clip it properly and not just keep it on head. Pertinently, 75% of fatalities happen with riders.
With the rise in road accidents, DGP held a meeting with police personnel to reduce fatalities on the road. Police have started acting against the traffic violators. Police have even deployed personnel in plain clothes to act against traffic violators.
