Sheriff's Office: Woman shot to death, man in custody in domestic violence incident

MADISON TWP. — A man is in custody after a woman was found shot to death Friday night at a Madison Township home.

Lenawee County sheriff's deputies and Madison Township police were dispatched shortly after 9 p.m. Friday to a report of a domestic violence incident on Baldwin Highway, a news release from the sheriff's office said.

According to sheriff’s deputies, when they arrived at the residence they discovered a 72-year-old woman deceased in the house from apparent gunshot wounds, the release said. The suspect, a 72-year-old man, was taken into custody and has been lodged at the Lenawee County Jail pending arraignment on homicide charges.

The names of the woman and man were not immediately released.

The firearm used in the crime has been recovered by sheriff’s deputies, the release said. The Michigan State Police Crime Lab was called to the residence to process the scene for evidence.

"This is a domestic-related incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the community," the release said.

The Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Madison Township Police Department, Michigan State Police Monroe Post, MSP Crime Lab and the Madison Township Fire Department.
