Kolkata police retrieve examinee's admit card
Cops hand over the bag to Ritu Mistri before her exam
KOLKATA: A Madhyamik examinee who had left her bag, containing the admit card, on a bus when she alighted at the exam venue on Friday, got it back in less than 30 minutes, courtesy traffic sergeants of two police commissionerates.
Michaelnagar resident Ritu Mistri had forgotten her bag on a bus of route DN 16/1 when she got off at Dum Dum Park crossing at 10.45am. She was in distress when she realised she left her admit card behind, and approached traffic sergeants at the crossing. Examinees have to enter a test centre by 11.30am.
"The girl and her mother approached us and we alerted our officers. Realising the bus may have crossed our jurisdiction, we called our counterparts at Ultadanga traffic guard, who swung into action," said Ripon Sarkar, ASI of Lake Town traffic guard. Sarkar then escorted the girl and her mother to the exam centre at Krishnapur Adarsha Vidyamandir for Girls.
The bus was intercepted on EM Bypass by Ultadanga traffic guard's additional OC Pijush Sadhukhan. With help of civic volunteers Sayantan Saha and Sagar Mullick, Sadhukhan retrieved the bag.
Sadhukhan then handed it over to Lake Town traffic guard's home guard Barun Dey, who rushed to the school to return it to the girl by 11.15am, 45 minutes before she was to write her paper.
"I am thankful to the cops for their help," said Sheila Mistri, the girl's mother.
