PRAYAGRAJ: More than four dozen localities of Sangam city that are reeling under regular water crises may soon get some relief with the Jan Sansthan deciding to install new tube wells in around two dozen such areas.
Besides, the water supply capacity will be increased by reboring 22 tube wells. The department has started preparations for this. The department has sought Rs 13 crore funds from the Maha Kumbh-2025 budget for installation and reboring of tube-wells.
Sources said the department had earlier sought funds worth Rs 5 crore from the Kumbh 2019 budget. Had the department been given the funds, the water crisis would not have escalated to this level, said sources.
The present water crisis has also increased due to depleting ground water level and rendering many tube wells dry. The department has also identified the tube wells which are not functioning properly. “A proposal has been prepared to install at least 26 new small tube wells and to rebore 22 tube wells and we are awaiting the budget. The proposal has been sent to the higher authorities,” said general manager Jal Sansthan Kumar Gaurav.
The localities which are facing water crises, include Daraganj, Allapur, Kydganj, Naini, Dariyabad, Bahadurganj, Unchwagarhi, Peeli Kothi, Circular Road, Govindpur, Salori, Chakia, Beniganj, Akbarpur, Karelabagh, Pritam Nagar and Jayantipur among others.
Also, to supply potable water to railway colonies near Prayagraj Junction, three overhead tanks would be constructed.
In the backdrop of the expansion plan of the Prayagraj Junction, construction of new buildings has started by demolishing old houses in railway colonies. In such a situation, focus is on providing 24-hour water supply to passengers and families living in the areas. Approval has been given to construct three overhead tanks on behalf of Prayagraj Division of North Central Railway. A new pipeline will also be laid on both sides of the junction up to the colonies. Presently, the overhead tanks, from which water is being supplied, will continue until the new tanks are ready.
