Guv lauds govt for effective implementation of NEP-2020
Belagavi: Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot appreciated the efforts of the Karnataka government for the effective implementation of National Education Policy-2020.
He spoke after inaugurating the 22nd annual convocation of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) at Jnana-Sangam campus of the varsity here on Friday. “Because of the government efforts, Karnataka is at the top in the country in implementing NEP,” he said.
Chief guest prof TG Sitharam, chairman of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, said the world is fast changing with disruptive innovations and it’s impacting every sphere of lives. Education sector is no exception, he said.
Prof Sitharam said the disruptive innovation propelled by digital and communication technologies is in fact offering India a natural advantage, and NEP-2020 has further propelled activities in the education sector. “As we pioneered as a leader in information technology sector, and here is an opportunity to take leadership in the education sector,” he said.
VTU conferred ‘Doctor of Science’ honorary degree on late Vikram Kirloskar (posthumous), former vice-chairperson of Toyota Kirloskar Motors, M Lakshminarayan, chairman, WABCO India Ltd and TVS Automobiles Pvt Ltd and Sachin Sabnis, MD, Belgaum Ferrocast India Pvt Ltd.
VTU also conferred 51,905 – BE/ B Tech degrees, 1,032 – B Arch, nine – B Plan, 4,279 – MBA, 2,028 – MCA, 1,363 – M Tech, 82 – M Arch and one PG Diploma degree to the students during the convocation, besides more than 700 PhD degrees. On the occasion, vice-chancellor S Vidyashankar read the next proposed initiatives of the university.
Topper Murali wants
teaching career
Murali S, a civil engineering student from Bangalore Institute of Technology (BIT- Bengaluru), who set a record by bagging 18 gold medals said he wants to pursue a teaching career.
Speaking to reporters on the side-lines of the VTU convocation, Murali said, “My goal is a teaching profession, where I can guide students. I believe I would be happy with a teaching job.” He attributed his phenomenal success to hard work.
Murali’s father works as lab instructor at a college in Bengaluru. According to vice-chancellor S Vidyashankar, Murali has created history by obtaining highest number of gold medals in VTU history. He has also scored the highest in all engineering streams besides civil engineering. He has also scored the highest in every semester.
