Varanasi: A delegation of United Nations’ permanent representatives were welcomed in a traditional style with garlands and ‘tilak’ on foreheads by UP ministers and the districts officials at LBSI airport on Friday.
A total of 12 UN permanent representatives of Kazakhstan, Gambia, Mali, Barbados, Mangolia, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, St. Louis, Tonga, Micronesia and Mauritania have arrived in Varanasi as a part of familiarisation tour being hosted by Ministry of external affairs of Government of India, said divisional commissioner Kaushal Raj Sharma, mentioning the visit introduces the guests to scale India’s diversity, all-round socio-economic development and country’s rich history.
The guests were taken to Kashi Vishwanath Dham, on boat ride to enjoy the beauty of mythological ghats of Kashi and . Later, they were taken to Sarnath.
Later, UP ministers Ravindra Jaiswal and Dayashankar Mishra Dayalu met the delegation and apprised them of ongoing development works in Varanasi and Uttar Pradesh.
The commissioner and the district magistrate S Rajalingam also met the delegation members. A detailed presentation of developmental projects implemented in last few years in Varanasi district was given to them. The delegation took keen interest in Namami Gange, tourism and integrated command and control centre projects, said officials.
