Thiruvananthapuram: The protests against chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan by the opposition parties continued on Friday as well. Black flags were waved at the chief minister’s vehicle convoy at six places in Kollam district.
Protesters waved black flags at six places in Kollam, Kottiyam, Madan Nada, Parippally and SN College junction. Heavy police deployment had been arranged in Kollam where the chief minister had programmes on Friday. As many as 500 policemen were deployed at various places under the supervision of DIG (Thiruvananthapuram range) R Nishanthini.
The protesters included activists from the Youth Congress, Yuva Morcha and Revolutionary Youth Front.
The police had also taken 33 activists into preventive custody. Also, the police took into custody those who reached the programme of the chief minister wearing black dresses.
The protests are part of the on-going ones for the last many days against the chief minister in connection with imposing Rs 2 in the
budget as cess over petrol and diesel.
