Kanpur: In the Kanpur Dehat fire incident, along with the death of the woman and her daughter, the family members claimed that their 22 goats were also burnt. However, the SIT probing the case recovered 19 goats of the victims family from the house of a villager on Thursday.
On February 13, during the eviction drive when the mother-daughter duo died in Madauli village of Kanpur Dehat, their family members claimed that their goats were also burnt to death. The woman’s son Shivam had even mentioned about the death of the 20 to 22 goats in the FIR. During the investigation by the SIT, however, it came to fore that till a few days ago there were nearly 35 goats in the house of one Nanhe. However, after the fire incident, the number of the goats in the house of Nanhe escalated to 55.
On this basis, when SIT officials reached his house, they found 19 goats tied there. During further investigation, it came to light that these goats belong to Shivam. “On being questioned by the SIT, how did the goats reach his house, Nanhe however could not give satisfactory answers to the team. To corroborate the same, the SIT has now proceeded with its investigation. He (Nanhe) however told that one goat died due to illness,” said a police official privy to the investigation, who added, “The SIT later handed over the goats to the victims family.” At the same time, the SIT recorded statements of eight people, including members of the victims family, and the village head. So far statements of 26 people have been recorded.
On February 13, Pramila Dikshit and her daughter Neha were burnt to death when their hut caught fire during the eviction drive.
