‘Local tongues on Net key to harness power’
Jaipur: Internet is English driven, depriving many in India to unlock the potential. But now the government wants integration of local languages into the internet.
The country is holding “Universal Acceptance Day on March 28, a right awarded to India by ICANN. The event will be attended by the tech giants and policy makers of the world Vint Cerf, inventor of internet and Tripti Sinha, chair of the ICANN board among others.
At an event in the Pink City organised by FICCI, Anil Kumar Jain, CEO of National Internet Exchange of India, said, “Out of 8 billion people in the world, 5 billion have internet access. That does not mean they are using internet. India has 84 crore Net users, but they are not using internet for productive uses.” TNN
