KALYAN: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA and former minister Jitendra Awhad has alleged that party's office bearer who went to Kolsewadi police station in Kalyan to rescue his son, was beaten by cops in which he died on the spot.
In a tweet, Awhad demanded that an FIR be registered against all policemen, those who were present and those who brought his son to police station.
According to police, Prashik Bhingardive (24), a resident of Kalyan east, was brought to Kolsewadi police station for questioning on Friday night during an all out operation for consuming liquor in public space with others. Later, his father Deepak Bhingardive (63) went to police station to question the action.
The police, however, refuted the allegation of assault in the case. The case has been handed over to CID for investigation.
DCP Sachin Gunjal who ordered CID enquiry in the case said, "Deepak Bhingardive was made to sit behind the police complaint room because when Pratish was being interrogated by the police, Deepak was shooting from his mobile phone and arguing with the police.
Gunjal further said, "There, Deepak got a fit and he was immediately sent to the hospital where he was declared brought dead."
He further said, "This entire incident has been recorded in the CCTV cameras of the police station and the reserved CCTV recording will be handed over to the CID for further investigation."
The officials said CID officials have been called to investigate this whole incident.
Chief judicial magistrate Thane has ordered that Deepak's inquest panchnama and post-mortem.
"The investigation of the entire case will be conducted by the CID and an independent inquiry will be conducted by the judicial magistrate first class," said Gunjal.
Deepak Bhingardive's family members have demanded a probe into the death of his father.
