ABB India opens a new, cutting-edge facility in Nashik to double its ability to produce gas-insulated switchgear (GIS).

The factory produces main and secondary GIS and serves clients in a variety of sectors, including power distribution, smart cities, data centres, transportation (metro, railways), tunnels, ports, highways, and other infrastructure initiatives.

The new location, which is 78,000 square feet in size, has capabilities for lean and intelligent production. It uses cutting-edge manufacturing robots that connect people, processes, and resources while also being able to transmit real-time data for increased production. The green manufacturing building was constructed in accordance with standards established by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), which maximises the use of water and energy. In order to reduce the environmental impacts throughout the life cycle, the firm also uses carefully chosen materials. The facility has also achieved its RE100 (100 percent renewable electricity) goal to achieve low carbon operations, which is in accordance with ABB’s Sustainability Strategy 2030 targets.

PrimeGearTM ZX0 is also made available in India by ABB India in association with the opening of this new factory. In order to promote the transition to a greener, smarter, and safer future, this environmentally friendly switchgear was constructed in the factory in Nashik using ABB’s SF6-free ecoGISTM with Dry Air technology for applications up to 12kV. Its sturdy, condensed design uses 20 percent less energy, produces 20 percent less heat, and increases safety.

This ecoGISTM reduces the global warming potential by 100 percent by using SF6 substitutes. In comparison to conventional switchgear, PrimeGearTM ZX0 offers remote monitoring and decreases the product installation footprint by up to 25 percent. As a global leader in GIS, ABB’s factory in India supports local manufacturing and works to build a society with lower carbon emissions.

Sanjeev Sharma, Country Head and Managing Director, ABB India, said, “ABB is committed to enabling a more sustainable and resource-efficient future. We use global technology, coupled with local engineering, as a catalyst for introducing greener alternatives in the market. This new GIS factory is a testimony to ABB’s commitment towards building a self-reliant India in manufacturing and contributing to the nation’s net-zero journey.”

Ganesh Kothawade, Senior Vice President and Head Distribution Solutions Division, Electrification Business, ABB India, said, “ABB in Nashik has been at the forefront of electrical engineering development in the country. It has always played a crucial role in introducing innovative products and solutions. With the increase in investments into megacities and infrastructure, the demand for sustainable, maintenance-free switchgear is growing.”

ABB India has been producing a variety of electrical distribution products and solutions in Nashik since 1978 across three locations, exhibiting its dedication to “Atmanirbhar Bharat” and “Made in India,” as well as meeting the increasing domestic and export demands from over 100 countries.
