CHENNAI: The
Election Commission of India will act as per the order of the Supreme Court and upload the amended bylaws of the AIADMK general council, said D Jayakumar, a former Tamil Nadu minister and a key associate of Edappadi K Palaniswami.
The Supreme Court on Thursday affirmed the order of the division bench of the Madras high court that allowed Palaniswami to continue as the interim general secretary.
“Former minister C Ve Shanmugam and the legal team will visit the Election Commission today. We have already provided details (to upload the amended bylaw), and we will approach it with the latest court order,” Jayakumar told reporters at the AIADMK headquarters, which has been in the possession of Palaniswami group following court intervention in September.
Barring expelled leaders O Panneerselvam, V K Sasikala and TTV Dhinakaran, others were not rivals to EPS group, Jayakumar said. “OPS son P Ravindhranath (who is also Theni MP), is not a member of the AIADMK. We have already submitted a letter to Parliament about his expulsion from the party. It will be reiterated again,” the former minister said, adding that it was for the Parliament to decide on his disqualification.
With OPS group maintaining that they still had opportunities in staking claim on the party, Jayakumar said, “No matter how many rounds they (OPS group) go, we will win all the rounds. We have not deviated from the party constitution and stand by the principles of justice and dharma. The cadre and the general council stand united and there is no stronger force than that.”
