Top cop initiates special patrolling to check crime in Karnataka
HUBBALLI: The Hubballi-Dharwad police Commissionerate has launched a special patrolling system to keep an eye on anti-social elements. The local police involving CAR and KSRP policemen started a special patrolling drive. Police conduct patrolling in all major areas including sensitive areas regularly.
Commissioner of police Raman Gupta said the special patrolling system was launched in Hubballi-Dharwad to instill confidence among people and to create fear among anti-social elements. Directions have been given to all police stations to conduct special patrolling in the evening from 5pm to 9pm.
“Anti-social forces used to get active mainly in the evening. If patrolling during evening is increased, crime can definitely be controlled. All police stations will conduct patrolling from evening to night by deploying policemen in all areas in their jurisdiction. The special patrolling will be henceforth conducted regularly,” he added.
According to police sources, personnel of CAR and KSRP will also be utilised for special patrolling. They will be patrolling in shifts, along with the civil policemen. The presence of reserved police will increase the strength and help conduct patrolling effectively, sources said.
The police commissioner, who was recently posted to Hubballi-Dharwad, has chalked out special plans to curb crime in the twin cities. He is planning to implement them in a phased manner, enforce strict rules and initiate stern action, sources added.
Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Vinay Javali has welcomed the police commissioner’s move. “Building confidence among people is the need of the hour. Police should continue the patrolling system which will create fear among anti-social elements and also ensure protection to the people and their properties,” he added.
“It’s a good decision by police to conduct special patrolling. It will help keep a close watch on the happenings in areas such as Shurur Park, Vidyanagar, Hosur and other areas. Patrolling not only helps curtail untoward incidents like chain snatching but also help streamline the traffic system in market areas,” said Dr MC Sindhur, a practicing doctor and social activist.
