CANACONA: Under the ‘Shram-Dham’ scheme, around 100 families are likely to get houses in Canacona.
Assembly speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar, who claims the scheme to be his brain child, said, “One house has already been built in record time with the contribution made by the people and handed over to a family who was previously living in a makeshift residence at Badde in Cotigao. Construction of 14 more houses will be taken up on war footing very soon.”
Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) chairperson Ramakant Naikgaunkar expects six of the 14 houses to be built for the poor from the municipal areas, probably two in Rajbhag-Tarir, three in Palolem and one in Kindlem.
While Tawadkar has made an open appeal to generously donate or dedicate one-day labour/work for the construction of these houses, Naikgaunkar has appealed to the donors to provide their financial support to build these houses for the poor without hesitation.
A meeting to discuss this issue was held at Chaudi recently. Naikgaunkar also held a meeting of the residents of Sheller to inform them about the ‘Shram-Dham’ concept. Nagesh Komarpant, OSD with the speaker’s office, explained the concept in detail and announced that a mega ceremony would be held on Saturday to launch the Shram-Dham scheme, where chief minister Pramod Sawant will lay the foundation stone of a house.
