Youth commission chairperson seeks fund to disburse salary to employees
Thiruvananthapuram: Youth commission chairperson Chintha Jerome has written to the finance department seeking funds for the commission. She said there is no sufficient fund to pay the salaries of the employees.
In a letter given to the finance department, Jerome has sought Rs 26 lakh, which includes the salary arrears of the chairperson. In the previous year budget 2022-23, the youth commission was sanctioned Rs 76.06 lakh. However, the government had sanctioned an additional Rs 9 lakh later as the budget allocation was not sufficient for the commission.
The chairperson said in the letter to the finance department that after paying the salary arrears till December 2022 the fund remaining is Rs 55,000 with which the day to day affairs of the commission could not be carried out.
Following the letter from Jerome, now the government has sanctioned Rs 18 lakh. Initially the salary of Jerome, who was appointed as the chairperson in 2016, was fixed at Rs 50,000 per month. However, her salary was increased to Rs 1 lakh in 2018. Even though the chairperson had sought retrospective effect for the revised salary, the government gave the retrospective effect only since January 1, 2017. TNN
