KOLKATA: Boarders of Hindu Hostel alleged TMCP supporters, among them a few Presidency University students, tried to forcefully enter the hostel on Wednesday night. They kicked the door, and threw bricks after they were denied entry by the security and the residential officer.
The boarders felt this is the second time after August that they have been "targeted" by TMCP supporters, and raised the issue of security. University students held a rally on campus and blocked College Street crossing for 10 minutes, condemning the incident.
Hostel resident Sheikh Sahidul said, "Four students wanted to stay as guests of Paltan Sil Sharma and Anwar, who are TMCP supporters and boarders, but didn't have permission.
" Arpan Maji, another boarder, said the four returned with local TM-CP supporters, who pelted stones and bricks at the hostel. PUTMCP secretary Ankan Das said, "Kallol Karmakar, Pranab Saha Chowdhury, Mrityunjay Mondal and I were heckled. The boarders threw water and stones at us, after which we retaliated with bricks, stones."
Both groups have submitted letters to dean of students Arun Maiti. "We are looking into the matter," Maiti said.
