LUCKNOW: Now if you spit or urinate in the open, you have to cough up Rs 250 as the Lucknow Municipal Corporation on Thursday launched an anti-spitting drive that will continue till March 1.
On the first day of the campaign 'Thookna Mana Hai', Rs 16,050 was collected as fine from over 60 violators.
Municipal commissioner Inderjit Singh said: "The drive is being carried out under Swachh Bharat Mission to preserve the beautification works done under G20 in Lucknow. Zero tolerance is being ensured against spitting, littering and urinating at public places."
LMC officials along with police ran the drive in Basmandi Crossing, Charbagh and Husariya circle. They kept a vigil on these places and caught people spitting, urinating or defecating in the open. The officials also fined them under Uttar Pradesh Waste (Management Operation and Sanitation) Rules 2021.
"Two violators at Husariya Crossing were given the title of 'Mr or Ms/Mrs Piku'. They were garlanded and asked not to repeat the mistake again," said Singh, adding that help from police, NGOs and locals is being taken in the drive.
