BENGALURU/ NEW DELHI:
BJP has zero tolerance towards corruption and people shouldn’t vote for corrupt candidates, Union home minister Amit Shah said in Bengaluru on Thursday, while asserting that India made a paradigm shift from “privilege to potential” in nine years of PM Narendra Modi’s government.
Describing BJP’s ideology as cultural-nationalism, he chided Congress for pursuing dynasty and appeasement politics. He sought to clarify that BJP encourages taking all sections of society together with the motto of Sab Ka Saath, Sab Ka Vikas, but asserted that his party would never go for appeasement politics to gain the support of a particular vote bank.
“Before PM Modi, opportunities were given on the basis of family fealty and budget allocations were made to appease a particular community. But the PM Modi style of governance adopted the bottom to top approach while formulating policies. Modi-ji liberated the country from casteism, dynastic rule and appeasement,” he said.
He insisted that BJP’s ideology is best suited to India and noted that the country’s diverse cultures have been unified on the single emotion of nationalism.
During an interaction as part of his campaign for the Karnataka polls due later this year, Shah took questions on allegations of ministers and officials demanding 40% bribe to clear projects.
He said his party led by PM Modi has brought many stringent laws, thanks to which authorities can attach assets of a culprit in a corruption case and send him or her to jail. Corruption has come down significantly because of the Centre’s initiative to encourage digital transactions and direct benefit transfer in welfare schemes, he said.
“BJP is very sensitive to corruption and we have zero tolerance to it. Corruption has come down. However, a political party alone cannot eradicate corruption. People should be determined not to vote for corrupt candidates,” Shah said.
Replying to a question on hijab in schools, he said dress code in schools is necessary to ensure equality among students.
