GUWAHATI: Nobel laureate from Bangladesh professor Muhammad Yunus will guide the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) administration for a developed, transformed and self-sustained economy in the tribal-inhabited region that was once marred by insurgency.
Yunus, along with delegates from embassies from the US and other countries, intellectuals and educationists, will join brainstorming sessions in the 1st Bodoland International Knowledge Festival to be organised by Bodoland University in collaboration with Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) administration in Kokrajhar from February 27 to March 2.
The thematic area of the festival is the achievement of social development priorities and key sustainable development goals (SDG) 2030 in contemporary BTR and the world.
BTC chief executive member Pramod Boro told the media on Thursday that Yunus will be among the luminaries to be present during the inauguration of the mega event. "Over the years, Kokrajhar and the BTR were portrayed negatively. We were known for insurgency and backwardness. But time has changed and we have moved ahead. Now we want Kokrajhar and the BTR to be known as a destination for intelligent people, not insurgency," said Boro.
"Our mission is to transform the BTR into an international knowledge hub," he added. He said for the 31-lakh population of the BTC, it will be one of the biggest events where the roadmap of transforming Kokrajhar and the BTR as destinations for education, knowledge sharing and tourism will be laid.
