Lab technicians get trained for malaria test
Kanpur: The Central government has set a target of eradicating malaria by the year 2030. To achieve this target, lab technicians of all community and primary health centers of the district were trained regarding malaria at RCH auditorium in Ramadevi on Thursday.
Two lab technicians of Kanpur district were trained on malaria microscopy in December, when self-help organization PATH -CHRI had conducted state-level training. Those two lab technicians then trained around 80 lab technicians in four batches on Thursday. Chief medical officer Dr Alok Ranjan said that the microscopy method was considered a gold standard for the diagnosis of malaria.
“The main objective of the training is to identify malaria disease in time, so that appropriate and correct treatment can be provided to the patients in time,” he added.
District malaria officer Dr AK Singh said that important information like types of malaria, identification of parasite, level of infection and life cycle of malaria parasite had been given in the training.
He said that a malaria test of patients suffering from fever was necessary. The test could be conducted by blood slide and its examination by microscope when patients reach the health centre and in the field it could be checked by RDT kit and blood slide or both.
After this training, malaria test could be performed at all health centers under standard protocol.
