Russia-Ukraine News Live: India abstained in the UN General Assembly on a resolution that underscored the need to reach "comprehensive, just and lasting peace" in Ukraine, as New Delhi questioned whether the world was "anywhere near a possible solution" acceptable to both Moscow and Kyiv a year into the Ukrainian conflict.India was among the 32 nations that abstained as the 193-member General Assembly adopted the resolution 'Principles of the Charter of the United Nations underlying a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine' Thursday, put forward by Ukraine and its supporters. The U.N. General Assembly approved a nonbinding resolution on Thursday that calls for Russia to end hostilities in Ukraine and withdraw its forces, sending a strong message on the eve of the first anniversary of the invasion that Moscow's aggression must stop. The resolution, drafted by Ukraine in consultation with its allies, passed 141-7, with 32 abstentions.

China coal mine death toll at six, 47 missing as rescue resumes

The death toll from a coal mine collapse in northern China rose to six with at least 47 people missing as rescue efforts resumed after a landslide had halted the search for survivors, state media said on Friday. Six people had been pulled alive from the mine in Inner Mongolia by 10:30 p.m. (1430 GMT) on Thursday, state media reported. The open-pit mine operated by small local firm Xinjing Coal Mining Co collapsed in a landslide on Wednesday, leaving workers buried under a pile of debris half a kilometre (1,600 feet) wide and an estimated 80 meters (260 feet) high, said state broadcaster CCTV.

Bihar govt cancels 39.36 lakh MGNREGA job cards

The rural development ministry of the state government has cancelled 39.36 lakh MGNREGA job cards of inactive labourers in the state. The affected labourers had not worked a single day in the last three years and were still earning money through this scheme. According to an official, the state government has taken the initiative as the Aadhaar card did not match with the job cards of MGNREGA labourers. Maximum number of cancellations are being reported from Patna, Vaishali, Samastipur, Bhagalpur, Bhojpur and Darbhanga district. A large number of labourers took the money under Indira Awas Yojana and PM Awas Yojana and built their houses on the basis of job cards but did not work a single day as a labour under MGNREGA

British PM to urge G7 to speed up military aid to Kyiv

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will on Friday tell G7 allies they must increase aid to Kyiv faster to give Ukraine a "decisive" battlefield advantage, a statement issued by his office said. "For Ukraine to win this war -- and to accelerate that day -- they must gain a decisive advantage on the battlefield... Instead of an incremental approach, we need to move faster on artillery, armour, and air defence," he is expected to say in a virtual meeting a year on from Russia's invasion. The UK is due to hold a minute's silence at 11:00 am (1100 GMT) to mark the first anniversary of the conflict. Sunak will join military personnel in observing the national moment of reflection at his Downing Street office, a statement said.
