DALTONGANJ: Truck driver Roop Lal Mahto (28) was burnt to death inside the vehicle parked at the Phulbasiya coal siding under the Baariyatu police station limits in Latehar district on Wednesday around 10 pm. The incident was discovered on Thursday morning.
The deceased driver was a resident of Nawa Khap village under Keredari police station limits in Hazaribag.
Latehar superintendent of police (SP) Anjani Anjan said, "The 14-wheel truck was parked at the Phulbasiya coal siding area since February 20 as it had broken down. Its gear box was out of order."
The truck used to ferry coal between Amrapali colliery, also called Magadh colliery, and Phulbasiya coal siding. Sources said the driver had reportedly cooked eggs for dinner on Wednesday night near the vehicle as egg shells were found at the site. The deceased driver had engaged in a scuffle with unidentified persons at the Phulbasiya coal siding a few days ago, they added.
