MANGALURU: Taxi drivers, who otherwise had to wait in their vehicle at the airport, have now got a place to rest. The stakeholders of Mangaluru International Airport (MIA), opened a restroom adjacent to the pre-paid taxi park, for taxi drivers operating from the airport.
Adani Airport Holdings Ltd stated on its social media handle, “MIA is not only working around the clock to provide the best service to our passengers, but we are also making significant changes for our stakeholders. We opened a new resting facility adjacent to the pre-paid taxi parking for taxi drivers operating from the airport.
The area has multiple amenities.” Jayanth Suvarna, president of the Airport Taxi Drivers and Owners Union, expressed his happiness, saying that earlier drivers who drove to the MIA, had to wait in their vehicle. “Be it rain or summer, all taxi drivers were forced to rest in their vehicle. There was no restroom or other facilities,” he said.
Explaining the facilities, Suvarna said that there are benches, washrooms, and also a place to sleep. The place is well-ventilated, with open areas covered with mosquito nets.
The restrooms are also equipped with an RO drinking water facility, and charging points. “The facility is open to all taxi drivers who come to MIA, to drop off and pick up passengers. The airport authorities have asked the union to look after the maintenance of the place,” he said.
