Peeved MSU syndicate members walk out of meeting

Vadodara: Syndicate members of the M S University (MSU) staged a walkout during the syndicate meeting on Thursday. The members were peeved at the delays in exam results as well as in getting agendas of the meeting.
The MSU syndicate meeting scheduled on Thursday afternoon was preponed from 3 pm to 2 pm by the administration. Even before the meeting began, it was evident that there would be a showdown as the supplementary agenda for the meeting was sent to the members just the previous night.
The syndicate members have been demanding that the meeting agendas be sent to them on time so that they can go through the details. In the past too, the delay has led to a confrontation between the members and vice-chancellor (VC) professor Vijay Kumar Srivastava.
What led to the walkout was, however, the delay in the arrival of Srivastava for the meeting with no prior intimation. “The attendance necessary for the quorum to convene the meeting was there at around 2.05 pm. The VC, however, came at only 2.36 pm. We decided to sing the university song and the national song and disperse,” said syndicate member Hasmukh Vaghela.
“We were assured earlier that the agendas will be made available to us in time, but it did not happen. It seems some items are deliberately included in the supplementary agenda and circulated at the last moment so that we have to pass them without studying them. The main agenda sent earlier did not have any important items in it,” said syndicate member Mayank Patel.
A crucial issue that the syndicate members pointed out was that thousands of students were yet to get their degrees and marksheets. “The marksheets of 30,000 students have not been provided. These include around 10,000 final year students. The convocation has been delayed leaving 16,000 students without degrees. The futures and further education of students is at stake,” alleged Patel.
