KALYAN: A 21-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing his ailing father by crushing his head with a millstone while he was asleep and then slitting his throat with a knife at their Dombivli home on Wednesday.
The youth, Tejas Shinde, called up the police and confessed to killing his father, Shyamsundar (68), the police said, adding that they found the elderly man lying in the house with blood splattered all over.
Tejas was fed up of the father's illness. The father and son had had an argument a little before the murder took place.
The investigation has shown that Shyamsundar Shinde had been ailing for a few months. "Due to this, he had become cranky... As for the son, he was short-tempered," said senior inspector Abhay Afale of Tilak Nagar police station.
On Wednesday afternoon, the father and son had an argument while the ailing man's wife had stepped out. Later, Shyamsundar fell asleep. "That's when Tejas committed the crime," said the police inspector.
The police said Tejas has confessed to his crime.
The son was pursuing his graduation and the elderly man's pension of around Rs 15,000 is what the family of three survived on. Shyamsundar retired as a security guard with BMC10 years ago. Tejas's mother is a home-maker.
After Tejas was placed under arrest, the elderly man's body was sent to Rukmini Hospital for a post mortem. -Pradeep Gupta
