GURGAON: Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Thursday announced that a Mewat feeder canal with 200 cusec capacity will be constructed from Sonipat to Gurgaon. The canal will supply water to both the city and Nuh.
With population and the demand for water increasing in the new sectors along the Dwarka expressway as well as the Southern Peripheral Road, the government needs to augment its supply network.
Currently, GMDA is supplying 570 MLD (million litres a day) of water from the Chandu Budhera and Basai water treatment plants to the city and is planning to add another 290 MLD to its capacity.
Most of this, 200MLD, will come from Chandu Budhera. Work to construct a 100 MLD unit will commence by March this year.
The other 100 MLD unit is expected to be assigned by June this year.
At Basai, a new 90 MLD unit will be built. Construction is expected to commence by July.
The GMDA will also expand the capacity of the Gurgaon Water Supply (GWS) channel from the present 100 cusec to 200 cusec. For this, the GMDA will deposit Rs 100 crore with the state’s irrigation department.
