MANGALURU: Kuldeep Kumar R Jain, a 2011 batch IPS officer took charge as the 14th commissioner of Mangaluru City police on Friday. After taking charge from outgoing commissioner N Shashi Kumar, he told reporters that he would work towards curbing illegal activities in the city and follow a zero-tolerance approach towards corruption.
To a query on the mushrooming of skill games and illegal sand extraction and transportation, he said that the police will take a tough stand against all the illegal activities in the city limits. He assured a zero-tolerance towards corruption in any form, when asked about the alleged corruption charges at police stations. “Even police officers should not give scope for it,” he said.
The team will work unitedly and effectively to ensure that the public is not inconvenienced. On the upcoming assembly election and Mangaluru being a sensitive area, he said, “We need to work sensitively while taking a tough stance against illegal activities.”
When the issue of increasing traffic violations was brought to his notice, he called upon the public to act responsibly and to follow all traffic rules by keeping in mind that someone is waiting for them back at home.
Jain said that he would continue the good work of his predecessor with the cooperation of all the police personnel. He had served the district as a probationary officer about 10 years ago. “Mangaluru has developed and I am looking forward to working in the city,” he said.
A native of Rajasthan, Jain grew up in Chennai and had served as a probationary officer in Dakshina Kannada. He later served as ASP in Channapatna, as Superintendent of Police of Chamarajnagar and Vijayapura as well as in the KSRP and ACB. He also served as DCP (Traffic West Division) in Bengaluru city, before being transferred to Mangaluru.
Meanwhile, Shashi Kumar has been transferred as Deputy Inspector General of Police, Railways.
