A tourist information centre near Maya Sarovar in Bodh Gaya was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Wednesday. He also attended a Guide’s conference at the Mahabodhi Cultural Centre, unveiled the state government’s ‘Tourist Ready Reckoner,’ and met with hoteliers and tour operators in Bodh Gaya.
The deputy chief minister arrived in Bodh Gaya to take part in tourism promotion events organised by the state tourism department and the district administration.
He said, “We are planning for the development of tourism sector in Bihar and it is yielding good results. To further promote the tourism sector, we have called a meeting for all the tourist guides of our department. The dress code has been fixed for them, so that the number of tourists can be increased as much as possible.”
Tejashwi toured the Vanawar hills in the Jehanabad area before landing at Bodh Gaya. He inaugurated the tourism department’s newly built guest house near Paataal Ganga in Vanawar.
Meanwhile, a memorandum was submitted to the Deputy CM by the Hotel Association, Bodh Gaya highlighting demands for development of tourist sites around Bodh Gaya including Sujatagarh, Dhungeshwari, Gurpa, Vanawar caves, Kakolat water falls besides developing a corridor from Rajapur (Bodh Gaya) to Vishnupad.
The memorandum also drew attention to other infrastructure developments such as road widening from Domuhan to the world heritage Mahabodhi Mahavihara and Rajapur to Node – I, construction of all roads within a two-kilometer radius of the Mahavihara, road beautification, and pedestrian pathway construction.
Aside from that, there has been a call for the development of other basic infrastructure, such as the expansion of the Gaya airport, a no-vehicle zone around the Mahavihara, a sewage system, drinking water arrangements for tourists, uninterrupted power supply in Bodhgaya, the construction of a meditation centre, an international standard super market and health centre, parking, and other tourist-centric facilities.

Association president Jai Singh said, “Demand has been made for development of tourist sites around Bodh Gaya including Sujatagarh, Dhungeshwari, Gurpa, Vanawar caves, Kakolat water falls besides developing a corridor from Rajapur (Bodh Gaya) to Vishnupad.”
