Bihar: 2 Banka kids drown in river while bathing

PATNA: Two children drowned while taking bath in a river in Banka district's Lakhnauri village on Wednesday. The incident took place in the afternoon when four kids had gone to take bath in Chandan river after their exams.
Two of them were not able to gauge the depth of the river. Realising the danger, they cried out for help. The other two boys rushed to find villagers to help their drowning friends.
Local divers pulled out students and were taken to the local hospital, where the doctors declared them brought dead. On getting information, SDO Alok Kumar and other officers reached the spot. The police recovered the bodies and sent them for postmortem.
The deceased were identified as Golu Kumar, son of Dayanand Jha, a resident of Lakhnauri village, and his cousin Rishabh Kumar Mishra, resident of Sagarat in Katihar district. Rishab had come to his aunt's house in Lakhnouri after his intermediate exams ended.
Family members said the children had gone out for a walk on Wednesday. later, they went to take a bath in Chandan river, where they drowned.
The locals claimed the incident happened because the children had strayed into a part of the river which has become a deep gorge due to sand mining. The police said they are investigating the incident.
