GURGAON: The MCG issued a show-cause notice to a contractor, who failed to construct a ready-mix concrete (RMC) road from government PG college in Sector 9 to the dividing road of Sector 9/ 9A. A team of MCG officials recently went to inspect the work and found that the thickness of the road was not made as per the contract between MCG and the contractor.
After the inspection in February third week, the contractor was directed to construct the road as per the specifications of the contract. However, as no changes were made by the private contractor a show-cause notice has been issued. MCG has directed the contractor to build the road as per the specifications earlier agreed upon. It won't release payment until then, officials said.
"The thickness of RMC is not found as per specification. In addition, separation membrane under M-40 dowel bars and tie bars on transverse joints and horizontal joints as per nomenclature should be installed. However, verbal directions have been given to representatives of the agency to rectify the same," read the notice.
"It is one of the main roads for the commuters going to old Gurgaon. The work on the stretch, which is 880 metres long, started around five months ago. However, only 30% of the work has been completed till now. We have been asking officials when the work will be completed, but have not received a satisfactory reply," said Prashant Chauhan, RWA president of Sector 9.
The quality of construction, especially for the roads, has become a major issue. The samples of internal roads constructed in Sarai Alawardi last year had failed the quality test. The MCG vigilance department in December 2022 had then recommended blacklisting the contractor who was given the contract for the roads.
