KANPUR: The Kanpur Dehat police on Tuesday served a notice on folk singer Neha Singh Rathore, who climbed up the music charts with her "Ka Ba" series songs, for her recent releases in which she had referred to the incident in which a woman and her daughter died of burns while their hutment was being demolished recently by the authorities using bulldozers in a Kanpur Dehat village.
In the notice, the police have stated that Neha's latest video is spreading disharmony in the society. She has been asked to provide answers to the police queries within the next three days, failing which legal action would be initiated against her in the matter.
Neha has allegedly targeted the Yogi Adityanath government by releasing a video titled 'UP Mein Ka Ba' season-2, on the Kanpur Dehat incident and sharing it on her Twitter handle and YouTube. Taking cognizance of the video, a team of Kanpur Dehat police reached Neha's residence in Ambedkar Nagar late Tuesday and served a notice under Section 160 of CrPC, asking her to answer seven questions related to the video. The questions are, is Neha Singh Rathore in the video or not? If yes, were the videos uploaded by her only? Similarly, the police asked whether the YouTube channel and Twitter account from which the video was shared belongs to her or not? The police then asked whether the lyrics of the video were written by Neha Singh Rathore? If yes, whether she stands by the same? If she has not written the lyrics, has the lyricist taken your permission? Is she aware of the adverse impact of videos on society? The police have asked Neha to submit a reply to the questions within three days, failing which a case will be filed against her under sections of IPC and CrPC.
CO Akbarpur Prabhat Kumar said on Wednesday that "various tweets and verbal complaints were received claiming that Neha's songs are spreading discrimination and hatred in the society". "Taking notice of this, a reply has been sought from her through a notice within three days. The police will take further legal action if she fails to submit a reply within the stipulated time frame," the CO added. Meanwhile, a video of the policemen standing outside Neha's house and interacting with her and her family members regarding the notice has also gone viral on social media. In the video, one can see Neha asking the policemen "who is troubling you people", to which the policeman could be seen, with a smile on his face, replying to her that "nobody and it's you, who is troubling us".
Then she says that "if you want, take a photo also", to which the policeman says "no, you just sign it (notice) and give it to me". Then a man who is talking to the policemen on behalf of Neha, asks the policemen where he has to sign. The policeman says that "madam will sign it". Thereafter, Neha could be seen receiving and signing the notice in the video. TOI, however, does not confirm the veracity of the video.
