Coimbatore: Students of the Government Law College in the city withdrew their protest on the second day of their sit-in, at noon on Wednesday. They announced their decision to withdraw their protest stating that the college administration has accepted to meet their demands.
Around 50 students staged a sit-in at the college campus insisting that the administration withdraw the police complaint against two students and rescind their suspension.
College principal K S Goplakrishnan had lodged a complaint with the Vadavalli police on January 5, against a third year BA LLB student and his wife, a first year LLM student from the college. In his complaint he alleged that the students were engaged in an argument with office manager M Sampath when they met him on September 13 and 14 last year to receive the woman student’s transfer certificate. He had accused the male student of threatening staff members and preventing them from discharging their duties. A student representative said talks with the college administration ended in fruition and that the administration has accepted the demands put forth by them. He thanked fellow students who joined in the protest and other law college students who supported them through social media.
