Cop shoots self with service rifle in Sonbhadra, dies

Varanasi: A 33-year-old police head constable identified as Anubhav Yadav allegedly shot himself with his AK-47 service rifle in the barrack of Hathinala police station of Sonbhadra district on Tuesday night. The motive behind the extreme step is yet to be ascertained as no suicide note was found at the spot.
A 2011 batch head constable, Yadav was posted at Hathinala police station under Suhwal police station area in Ghazipur district.
ADG Varanasi zone Ram Kumar on Wednesday said, “Apart from SP Sonbhadra Yashvir Singh, other senior police officers also reached the spot. Officials found that the head constable had committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle. The reason behind suicide is still unclear as he had not left any suicide note.”
According Sonbhadra officials, Yadav of Dudahiya village under Suhwal police station area in Ghazipur was 2011 batch head constable. He was posted at Hathinala police station as the follower of station officer. On Tuesday evening, he returned to his barrack after combing operation. After sometime he was ordered by the SO Hathinala to get ready for night patrolling with him.
Yadav asked his colleagues to go for patrolling saying that he will join them after sometime. However, when he did not join the patrolling team for several minutes his colleagues started looking for him and called him up on his mobile phone. However, they didn’t get any response and so they reached the barrack where they found Yadav lying in a pool of blood and his AK-47 rifle was found near his body.
Hathinala cops immediately rushed him to nearest hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. On getting information SP Sonbhadra Yashvir Singh, ASP Kalu Singh, CO Shankar Prasad and many other officials reached the spot. On getting information Yadav’s family members also reached Sonbhadra from Ghazipur late in night. The bod was sent for postmortem.
