Erode: NTK candidate Menaka Navaneethan met the returning officer in Erode East on Wednesday to refute the charges of poll code violations against her and to complain about alleged violations by the DMK and the Congress.
Alleging that a false case has been booked, accusing her of holding a public meeting without permission, she told the returning officer that she was only doing ‘thinnai pracharam’ (canvassing votes from porches of houses) and not public meetings.
She said the candidates were given oral instructions that thinnai pracharam doesn’t need prior permission from the election authorities. “It was only thinnai pracharam. But a false case has been registered,” she said.
